Barrett's esophagus, first of all, is a precancerous condition of the distal end of the esophagus, and it doesn't cause symptoms on its own. Unfortunately, it can lead to a type of esophageal cancer called esophageal adenocarcinoma. The goal of our study was to determine how long a patient's Barrett's esophagus has been inside of their esophagus by the time it's diagnosed, and if that's clinically important.
