FREE Mental Health First Aid Course for King County Residents

Mental Health First Aid is an evidence-based course that teaches how to identify, understand, and respond to signs of mental illness and substance use disorder. This 6-hour training gives you the skills you need to reach out and provide initial support to someone who may be developing a mental health or substance use problem and help connect them to appropriate care. You can be the first line of support.
The course will teach you how to apply the ALGEE action plan:
• Assess for risk of suicide or harm
• Listen nonjudgmentally
• Give reassurance and information
• Encourage appropriate professional help
• Encourage self-help and other support strategies
The 6-hour Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) skills-based training is broken down into 2 parts:
1) 2-hour self-paced session and learning evaluation - This portion must be completed one week prior to attending the 4-hour session-this session can be repeated if needed.
2) 4-hour instructor-led session. This session is interactive and will have activities, case examples, and other exercises that contribute to learning.
