As NIAID seeks new ways to fight antibiotic-resistant bacteria, one solution might lie with a group of viruses. Some bacteriophages (or “phages” for short) prey on harmful bacteria, and may one day be used in conjunction with antibiotics to treat stubborn or life-threatening bacterial infections.
