Currently only a small fraction of potentially druggable targets are being extensively studied, leaving lots of understudied ‘dark’ targets to be explored. In this paper the authors have developed a Drug Target Ontology to facilitate the integration and formal linking of diverse data important for drug discovery. This plays a key role in the grand task being addressed by the Druggable Genome (IDG) project - identifying and prioritising new drug targets.
