Today at the 2016 National Ryan White Conference on HIV Care and Treatment we had the opportunity to hear highlights from HRSA’s Dr. Laura Cheever and CDC’s Dr. Eugene McCray.
Dr. Cheever, HRSA’s Associate Administrator for the HIV/AIDS Bureau (HRSA/HAB), spoke via Facebook Live with her colleague Dr. Letitia Robinson, a Senior Advisor in HAB. They touched on some of the accomplishments of the Ryan White HIV/AIDS Program being celebrated at the conference. They also highlighted some of the disparities in HIV care outcomes that all at the conference are seeking to address and some of the barriers to achieving those outcomes, including racism, privilege, homophobia, transphobia, and stigma.
Dr. McCray, Director of CDC’s Division of HIV/AIDS Prevention, spoke with his colleague Angel Luis Ortiz-Ricard, JD, in a second video on Facebook. . Among the topics they discussed were collaborative efforts between CDC and HRSA to improve viral suppression and health outcomes for people living with HIV in the United States. This included two demonstration projects as well as the current effort to facilitate joint HIV prevention and care planning at the jurisdiction level.
