EU Clinical Trials Register goes live
After several decades of advocacy, the European register of clinical trials is now accessible on line.
The online register, which is managed by the European Medicines Agency (EMA), gives public access, for the first time, to information on interventional clinical trials for medicines authorised in the 27 EU Member states and Iceland, Liechtenstein and Norway. The database also allows the public to search for information on authorised clinical trials to be carried out outside the EU, if these trials are part of a paediatric investigation plan.
The information is provided by the clinical trial sponsor, and is a component of the application to national medicines regulatory authorities for authorisation to conduct a trial.
Throughout the project the EMA worked with stakeholders, including patients and healthcare professionals, to ensure that their needs were taken into account in designing the register. Read more ► http://img.eurordis.org/newsletter/pdf/may-2011/Press_release_clinical%20trials%20register.pdf
