SAMHSA Advisory Educates Providers on Gambling Problems
Gambling Problems: An Introduction for Behavioral Health Services Providers
March is National Problem Gambling Awarness Month. The SAMHSA Advisory, Gambling Problems: An Introduction for Behavioral Health Services Providers, informs providers about gambling problems and gives them insight into screening, treatment, and prevention strategies.
The Advisory is a summary of what is known about gambling problems, their prevalence, and the connections between gambling problems and other behavioral health conditions, such as substance use disorders and suicidal behavior.
The publication aims to familiarize providers with the subject, so they are more likely to recognize gambling disorders and better able to assist clients who may have them. Additional resources for help are identified for professionals, and for clients and their families.
