Tracking Awareness Week - Powered By Tracking - July 6-10, 2020 | CDC

The topic for today’s #PoweredByTracking Tracking Awareness Week discussion is the Tracking Network’s role in using data to affect policy or improve processes

One of our goals here at Tracking is to disseminate information to guide policy, practice, and other actions to improve the nation’s health.

The Tracking Network has been used to:
  • Identify people at risk for a health problem that can get worse from an environmental exposure.
  • Protect public health through education, interventions, or policies.
  • Save money by improving the speed and accuracy of public health activities and responses.
Data that is #PoweredByTracking has led to policy and process changes that have improved public health. Here’s just a few examples:
  • The Oregon Tracking Program provided data and technical support to better define smoke intrusion. This new definition lead to revised policy, where prescribed burning events longer than one hour trigger requirements to develop a community response plan to notify residents and support actions to avoid health impacts.
  • The Utah Tracking Program supplied Tracking data to inform elementary school recess guidance updates during poor air quality days.
  • California’s Tracking Program used Tracking Network data to characterize agricultural use near schools, and this study resulted in new state regulations and local policies to limit pesticide use near schools to protect students and staff.
