For the past 70 years, May has been observed as Mental Health Month.

Mental health problems are common and burdensome. In the United States, they affect about one-fourth of adults in any given year and nearly half of adults at some time during their lives.

Researchers are investigating complementary and integrative health approaches for a variety of mental health issues, including anxietydepressionseasonal affective disorder (a form of depression), and post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). Some results have been promising. For example, light therapy has been shown to be helpful for seasonal affective disorder, and mindfulness meditation interventions and relaxation techniques may help relieve the anxiety that can occur during stressful situations.
