Thank you for participating in American Heart Month | The National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute

American Heart Month

Thank you for joining the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute and our partners last month in our enthusiastic observance of American Heart Month, which included a great kickoff on February 3rd with National Wear Red Day®.
Together, we raised awareness about the risk factors and signs of cardiovascular disease—the nation’s leading cause of death—and spread the critical word about how to prevent it. See some of the results of our activities in this Storify.
As you know, our focus this year was “Small Changes to Improve Your Heart Health,” and your support was key to reaching millions of Americans with simple tips on how to make those changes part of their everyday lives. The Washington Post gave our message a big boost with an article that highlighted some of the small, “big-bang” lifestyle fixes we have long promoted.
We also partnered with our friends at Woman’s Day Magazine to explore ways to harness the power of our communities to fight heart disease in women, whose symptoms often go unnoticed. Learn how women in five different types of communities are creatively addressing this issue.
American Heart Month was a great success, but we must keep the momentum going beyond February. We hope you will join us as we continue to lead new discoveries in heart disease research and foster important discussions about preventing heart disease.
Watch this video message from NHLBI’s Dr. David Goff, director of the Division of Cardiovascular Sciences, and Dr. George A. Mensah, director of the Center for Translation Research and Implementation Science, which discusses the importance of heart disease prevention, treatment, and continued research.
