The Vector Biology Research Program supports research to discover new ways to prevent the spread of disease. Vectors—organisms that transmit pathogens to hosts—include mosquitoes, ticks, triatomine bugs, sand flies, black flies, tsetse flies, fleas, mites and certain freshwater snails.
