Transatlantic Taskforce on Antimicrobial Resistance Report 2014

TATFAR Progress Report

Antimicrobial resistance (AMR), or when microorganisms don’t respond to the drugs designed to kill them, is a significant public health problem. The US and the EU continue to work together to address this growing threat. The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) and The European Commission (EC) have released the first progress report of the Transatlantic Taskforce on Antimicrobial Resistance (TATFAR). Collaboration between the US and the EU has led to an increase in exchanging information, understanding of best approaches and practices, and developing peer relationships. While significant progress has been made, concern related to AMR continues to grow. Therefore, the mandate of the taskforce has been extended for two additional years.
The report summarizes the progress and the outcomes of the implementation of the 17 original recommendations, the decision about the future of each recommendation and describes one new recommendation.
