The development and spread of antibiotic-resistant bacteria is one of the greatest global health threats. First released in 2015, the National Action Plan for Combating Antibiotic-Resistant Bacteria (CARB) set targets to help the United States fight antibiotic-resistant pathogens. Now, a new National Action Plan for CARB sets updated targets which will guide research, surveillance, and more through the year 2025. The new plan lays out targeted actions that will equip the United States to respond to both present and future antibiotic-resistant pathogens. The plan’s targets are designed to decrease healthcare-associated infections, enhance surveillance and tracing of outbreaks of new and existing antibiotic-resistant infections, guide research investment, and more.
