A Salute at National Disease Intervention Specialists Recognition Day 2020 | HIV.gov
CDC is proud to recognize the ninth annual National Disease Intervention Specialists (DIS) Recognition Day. This year has been an unparalleled test of the nation and proven, once again, the invaluable role DIS play in our public health workforce.
The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, through the Health Resources and Services Administration, today announced approximately $2.24 billion in Ryan White HIV/AIDS Program grants were awarded to cities, counties, states, and local community-based organizations in fiscal year (FY) 2020. This funding supports a comprehensive system of HIV primary medical care, medication and essential support services vital to improving the health quality of more than half a million people with HIV in the United States.
The National Institutes of Health has awarded approximately $10 million to support implementation science research to advance the goals of Ending the HIV Epidemic: A Plan for America, which aims to reduce new HIV diagnoses in the United States by at least 90% by 2030.
Eugene McCray, M.D., Director, Division of HIV/AIDS Prevention, National Center for HIV, Viral Hepatitis, STD, and TB Prevention, has retired after 35 years of distinguished service at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has announced the availability of fiscal year 2021 funds for a cooperative agreement program for community-based organizations to develop and implement high-impact HIV prevention programs. The Notice of Funding Opportunity, known as PS21-2102: Comprehensive High-Impact HIV Prevention Programs for Community Based Organizations, focuses on addressing the national HIV epidemic by reducing new infections, increasing access to care, and promoting health equity in accordance with the Ending the HIV Epidemic: A Plan for America initiative and CDC’s High-Impact HIV Prevention approach.
The U.S. Department of Health & Human Services (HHS) is inviting comments on the draft national strategic plans for sexually transmitted infections and viral hepatitis. HHS, through the Office of the Assistant Secretary for Health and its Office of Infectious Disease and HIV/AIDS Policy, has been coordinating development of both plans by federal partners from across HHS and other departments.
Public Health Reports, a peer-reviewed journal of public health research and practice, has issued a call for papers focused on the public health response to the COVID-19 pandemic. The broad range of COVID-19–related topics that will be considered for publication includes disparities in testing, treatment, and survival outcomes for racial or ethnic minorities and other populations at risk; partnerships with traditional and nontraditional public health partners; and more.
