Get the support you need to make lasting changes.
Get all the support you need to make lasting changes. When you join CDC’s National Diabetes Prevention Program (National DPP) lifestyle change program, you can lower your risk for type 2 diabetes, improve your health, and build healthy habits that last a lifetime.
Could you have prediabetes? Take the risk test.
If you have prediabetes, you’re not alone. In fact, you’re one of 88 million US adults with this condition, which raises your risk for type 2 diabetes, heart disease, and stroke.
There is good news, though. Even if you’re at high risk, you can prevent or delay type 2 diabetes with proven lifestyle changes. Knowing you have prediabetes means you can do something about it.
Not sure if you have prediabetes? Take the 1-minute prediabetes risk test. If your score shows your risk is high, you may be able to join a lifestyle change program. Your doctor can confirm your results with a simple blood test.

Cut Your Risk in Half

If you think you have to make huge changes to make a difference, you may be relieved to know that two key things can cut your risk of developing type 2 diabetes in half:
  • Losing just 5% to 7% of your body weight.
  • Getting 150 minutes of moderate physical activity per week.
If you’re 60 years or older, losing weight and increasing your physical activity can reduce your risk even more!
What does this really mean? If you weigh 200 pounds, you would aim to lose 10 to 14 pounds and be physically active 5 days a week for 30 minutes. This can make a big difference in preventing type 2 diabetes.
Learn how to do this and make lasting changes with CDC’s National DPP lifestyle change program.

You’re Not Alone

We can all be scared to make changes in our life. Maybe we think it’ll be too hard, so why bother?
The National DPP lifestyle change program will be there with you every step of the way, so you won’t be on your own. With the help of a lifestyle coach, you’ll learn to manage stress, stay motivated, and solve problems that get in the way of your goals.
Plus, you get a support group of people with similar goals and challenges. Together, you can share ideas, celebrate the good stuff, and work through the hard stuff.
Because these kinds of changes take time, you’ll receive a full year of support with the lifestyle change program. You’re learning more than how to eat healthy and be physically active. You’re learning how to make lasting changes that fit into your real life.

Flexibility for Your Schedule

Whether in person or online, the National DPP lifestyle change program can support you in a way that fits your needs.
In addition to in-person programs, online programs offer an option for participants who need more flexibility. If you’re too far from in-person classes, if you can’t leave your home, or simply prefer the convenience of an online format, online classes can be an ideal option.
