Complete lockdown in four Tamil Nadu districts: Here is what’s allowed, what’s not

Edappadi said under the National Disaster Act of 2005, the four districts, which are worst affected due to Covid-19, will go under a complete lockdown for a period of 12 days.

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami has announced a complete lockdown in Chennai, Thiruvallur, Chengalpet, and Kancheepuram districts from June 19 to June 30. Grocery, hotels (parcel only) and other necessary item shops will remain open between 6 am and 2 pm. On two Sundays (June 21 and 28), there shall be a full scale shutdown without any relaxations, Palaniswami said. On Sunday, Tamil Nadu registered 1,974 new coronavirus cases pushing the overall tally to 44,661 and 38 people died of the virus, raising the fatality count to 435 in the state. The development comes after an expert committee advised the government on scaling down lockdown relaxations and preventing the further spread of coronavirus.
