Researchers Find Robust T Cell Responses in People Who Recovered from COVID-19
Scientists from the La Jolla Institute for Immunology have identified robust T cell responses to SARS-CoV-2, the virus that causes COVID-19, in people who have recovered from the illness. Findings of the NIAID-supported research were published today in Cell. Such T cell responses suggest infection or a vaccine may induce immunity. Researchers also found that blood samples collected from people who were not exposed to SARS-CoV-2 also produce some T cell responses. This observation may be explained by pre-existing immunity to related coronaviruses that cause the common cold.
