Reducing Antibiotic Use in Ambulatory Care through Influenza Vaccination
Acute respiratory infections, of which flu infections are a common vaccine-preventable cause, account for nearly half of the antibiotics used in the U.S., and studies have shown a strong connection between antibiotic use and the spread of antibiotic resistance. A recent CDC study found that accurate flu diagnoses and a flu vaccine can curb unnecessary antibiotic use and reduce the threat of antibiotic resistance.
