DEA National Prescription Drug Take Back Day is October 26, 2019

DEA Drug Take Back Day
The National Prescription Drug Take Back Day addresses a crucial public safety and public health issue. According to the 2018 National Survey on Drug Use and Health, 9.9 million Americans misused controlled prescription drugs. The study shows that a majority of abused prescription drugs were obtained from family and friends, often from the home medicine cabinet.

CDC Early Release MMWR on e-cigarettes

As of October 15, 2019, 1,479 lung injury cases associated with e-cigarette use, or vaping, have been reported to CDC from the District of Columbia, 1 U.S. territory (US Virgin Islands), and 49 states (all except Alaska). CDC recommends that people should not use e-cigarette, or vaping, products containing THC. Also, because the specific cause or causes of lung injury are not yet known and while the investigation continues, people should consider refraining from use of all e-cigarette, or vaping, products. Visit the CDC for the latest outbreak information and resources, including a new MMWR Early Release on E-cigarette Use, or Vaping, Practices and Characteristics Among Persons with Associated Lung Injury — Utah, April–October 2019.

HHS/CMS Office of Minority Health (CMS OMH): Call for nominations for the 2020 CMS Health Equity Award. Recognizes an organization that can demonstrate it has reduced disparities in health care quality, access or outcomes for racial and ethnic minorities, people with disabilities, sexual and gender minorities, and rural populations. Deadline is November 15Learn more | Apply.
HHS/NIH, National Cancer Institute (NCI): Research grant. Improving the Reach and Quality of Cancer Care in Rural Populations (R01 Clinical Trial Required). The Foundation for AIDS Research (amfAR)Allan Rosenfield HIV/AIDS Public Policy Internship and Fellowship Program.
