Fourth-year medical student Army 2nd Lt. Mitchell Harris has seen what happens when the bone of a service member with an amputation begins to grow abnormally. It breaks through the skin and causes the prosthetic not to fit properly. Harris is trying to find a way to identify bone lesions that might become a problem and treat them before the bone grows.
Humans normally blink about 18 times a minute. While staring at a computer—or video game, or hand held device—we blink only half as much, a situation that is resulting in computer vision syndrome (CVS), according to the American Academy of Ophthalmology (AAO).
“Many of my fellow President’s Council members are current or former professional athletes and I marvel at their accomplishments. Me? I was a college quarterback, but those days are far behind me. However, I still take my own fitness very seriously—in between bringing awareness to campaigns like The UltimateMe PALA+ Challenge, I’ve run 6 marathons, most recently the 2014 Boston Marathon."
