Increased reporting of hypersensitivity reactions with specific batches of human normal immunoglobulin medicines has triggered a review by the European Medicines Agency’s (EMA’s) Pharmacovigilance Risk Assessment Committee (PRAC).
The review was opened at the committee’s October meeting and announced on October 30. Human normal immunoglobulins are used to help prevent infections in patients with antibody deficiency, including some with immune disorders or blood cancers. They are also used to treat certain conditions in which the immune system attacks the body’s own tissues.
