The World Health Organization’s Regional Office for Europe (WHO) recently developed a new set of principles to help countries improve access to innovative, high-cost medicines while supporting the financial sustainability of healthcare systems.
The framework outlines the set of managed entry agreement (MEA) principles that were developed by WHO/Europe, National Institutes for Health and Care Excellence, Utrecht University and experts from NMP Work Package3. Our former Patient Engagement & Therapeutic Development Director, Maria Cavaller Bellaubi, was also involved in the creation of the Framework.
The framework includes eight core principles, an uncertainty scale, a decision-making flowchart and a checklist. Together, these tools aim to improve transparency, guide negotiations and support countries in establishing or refining their approaches to managed entry agreements.
