Baveno VIII: what's new? Behind the decades-long effort is the central tenet that portal hypertension is a key prognosticator in chronic liver disease (CLD), marking a proverbial tipping-point from compensation, with more favourable prognosis, to decompensation and reduced survival. And the rising tide of CLD is behind its continued importance today—since the first Baveno consensus in 1990, the global incidence of liver cirrhosis has increased by a staggering 58%. In response, Baveno has expanded too. The new edition presents 272 consensus statements, which have been updated to align with contemporary evidence.
