mPINC State Reports: Maternity Practices | Breastfeeding | CDC

New State Breastfeeding Reports Available

New state reports on infant feeding care practices and policies among hospitals were published in July 2020. The reports are based on the Maternity Practices in Infant Nutrition and Care (mPINC) survey data from the United States and territories. All hospitals with maternity services are invited to participate. In 2018, 2,045 hospitals responded, representing 70% of all hospitals with maternity services.

State reports summarize the strength of breastfeeding support in hospitals and other areas that could be improved. These reports identify opportunities for states to better protect, promote, and support breastfeeding mothers and infants.

The mPINC survey was redesigned in 2018. Results from the 2018 mPINC survey cannot be compared with results from previous mPINC surveys.

In addition to state reports, each participating hospital received a report. If a participating hospital is unable to locate its electronic 2018 report, please send an email request to mpinc@cdc.gov and include the hospital name and complete address.
