New CDC Vital Signs Report on Acute Flaccid Myelitis

On August 4, 2020, CDC will release a Vital Signs report about acute flaccid myelitis (AFM), an uncommon but life-threatening neurological condition that mostly affects children and can lead to permanent paralysis. Providers and parents should suspect AFM in patients with sudden limb weakness, especially during August through November. We encourage you to:
  • Look for CDC’s new Vital Signs materials on Tuesday, August 4 at 1:00 PM EDT at www.cdc.gov/vitalsigns/afm2020.
  • Listen to the CDC telebriefing about the AFM Vital Signs report on Tuesday, August 4 at 12:00 PM EDT. The dial-in information will be available on the CDC Newsroom website at 9:00 AM EDT that day.
  • Join the conversation via your social media channels using the hashtags #acuteflaccidmyelitis, #knowAFM, and #VitalSigns
  • Learn about CDC’s guidance and resources for clinicians and parents and share them as appropriate.
