What Do We Know About Diet and Prevention of Alzheimer's Disease?
Many studies suggest that what we eat affects the brain’s ability to think and remember. But what do we really know about diet and Alzheimer’s disease?
Unlike other risk factors for Alzheimer’s that we can’t change, such as age and genetics, people can control lifestyle choices such as diet, exercise, and not smoking. These lifestyle factors may reduce oxidative stress and inflammation in the body, which we know is good for the whole body, including the brain.
Researchers have looked at the benefits of several healthy eating patterns like the Mediterranean or MIND diets and are now studying them more rigorously to see if they can prevent or delay Alzheimer’s or related cognitive decline.
