Remember These Things Before a 911 Call

In the case of any emergency, it can be overwhelming to contact the proper authorities to send help. Whether you're experiencing a medical issue or have seen a person in danger or crime take place, take these tips into consideration before, during, and after a 911 call:
  • Know what constitutes an emergency. An emergency is any situation that requires immediate help from the police, fire department or medical assistance.
  • Not sure if the situation is a true emergency? Officials recommend calling 911 and letting the call-taker determine whether you need emergency help.
  • Be prepared to answer the call-taker's questions, such as the location of the situation, the best number to reach you, and any physical or contextual details about the emergency.
