Co-Occurring Alcohol Use Disorder and Anxiety: Bridging Psychiatric, Psychological, and Neurobiological Perspectives
Few observations in psychiatry have been documented as long and as consistently as the association between anxiety and the chronic misuse of alcohol. Research has shown that up to 50% of individuals receiving treatment for problematic alcohol use also met diagnostic criteria for one or more anxiety disorders. This article provides an overview of the evolving perspectives of this association in the context of three related disciplines - psychiatry, psychology, and neuroscience.
