SAMHSA will be unveiling a free mobile app called Suicide Safe that will help primary care and behavioral health providers integrate suicide prevention strategies into their practice and address suicide risk among their patients. The app is  expected to launch in March, and SAMHSA email subscribers will be notified as soon as it is available. If you aren’t already receiving SAMHSA emails, you can subscribe and receive important news and notifications.
Suicide is the tenth leading cause of death in the United States, and the second leading cause of death for young adults ages 10 to 24, as well as for those ages 25 to 42. Suicide can be prevented, and SAMHSA is working to ensure resources are available to help patients and providers. Suicide Safe is just one of many efforts that SAMHSA supports to lessen the risk and promote healing and wellness. Key features of Suicide Safe include SAMHSA’s Behavioral Health Treatment Services Locator, patient education materials, interactive sample cases, and conversation starters for talking with patients about their suicidal ideations or behaviors. The app is based on SAMHSA’s Suicide Assessment Five-Step Evaluation and Triage (SAFE-T) card and includes SAMHSA’s Behavioral Health Treatment Services Locator, patient education materials, interactive sample cases, and conversation starters for talking with patients about their suicidal ideations or behaviors.
SAMHSA’s free Suicide Safe app will be available for iOS® and Android™ mobile devices.
