NIH-Led Scientists Describe New Herpes Treatment Strategy
NIH-led scientists have developed a novel treatment approach for persistent viral infections such as herpes. Blocking the activity of a host cell protein called LSD1 greatly reduced infection, viral shedding, and disease recurrence in animal models of herpes. The strategy may offer advantages over current treatments, which do not effectively control shedding or reactivation of dormant virus.
