The U.S. National Institute on Aging mentions these common risk factors for gout:
- Being male.
- Having a family history of gout.
- Being overweight.
- Eating a poor diet.
- Drinking alcohol.
- Having too much uric acid in the blood, a condition called hyperuricemia.
