Occasional anxiety is a normal part of life, but if your anxiety does not go away and gets worse over time, you may have an anxiety disorder. People with anxiety disorders have persistent feelings of fear and dread that interfere with daily activities such as work, school and relationships. The good news is that anxiety disorders are treatable. Psychotherapy and medication -- used by themselves or in combination -- can be very effective.
The information on Anxiety Disorders was developed for NIHSeniorHealth by the National Institute of Mental Health (NIMH) at NIH.
