SARS-CoV-2 is a betacoronavirus and is related to human SARS-CoV and bat SARS-like CoVs. The genome of SARS-CoV-2 reveals similarities to SARS-CoVs, but also key differences that may explain the increased transmissibility of SARS-CoV-2 compared to SARS-CoV.
