The sickle cell test looks for the abnormal hemoglobin in the blood that causes the disorder sickle cell disease.

What is Sickle Cell Disease?

Sickle cell disease (SCD) is a group of inherited red blood cell disorders. SCD is typically genetic, and those born with it start to have signs of the disease during the first year of life. These symptoms can include painful swelling of the hands and feet, fatigue, and jaundice. A blood test can show if you have SCD.
