Preparing for World Hepatitis Day

Viral Hepatitis Updates from the HHS Office of Infectious Disease and HIV/AIDS Policy

Dear Colleague,
World Hepatitis Day is July 28 – a day set aside to raise awareness about viral hepatitis and highlight the actions we can take to continue moving toward hepatitis elimination.  This year’s theme focuses on the 300 million people worldwide who are unknowingly living with viral hepatitis. Finding these people, the “missing millions” is an essential step in eliminating viral hepatitis. Visit the World Hepatitis Day website to learn more about this global observance, find helpful materials and resources, and join us in promoting awareness and action.

Our National Viral Hepatitis Action Plan describes how testing and diagnosis is critical to preventing new infections, improving the health of people living with viral hepatitis, and reducing deaths. Ensuring success of elimination efforts, either on a global or domestic scale, depends on partnerships and an integrated approach. None of us can tackle viral hepatitis elimination alone. Collaboration and coordination of efforts are crucial for successful Action Plan implementation, as evidenced by the projects listed on  Mapping Hepatitis Elimination in Action. Let us know when you are ready to add your elimination project to the Map.

Our success in reaching elimination will hinge on working in partnership with you and others across the nation. As we move forward, we will continue to share additional information and resources on both our blog and via this listserv. Stay tuned and don’t hesitate to tell us what is working for you so we can all celebrate success, together!
