The American Dental Association says these problems may result if the condition is left untreated in children:
- Difficulty cleaning teeth and gums, potentially resulting in tooth decay and gum disease.
- Unhealthy development of the jaw.
- Increased risk of chips, fractures and abnormal wear among teeth that aren't properly aligned.
- Speech and eating difficulties.
