This report provides an overview of some of the HIV prevention activities conducted and supported by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention during late 2010 to the end of 2011.
From 2008 through 2011, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) convened several workgroups to consider revision of various aspects of the HIV surveillance case definition. On February 7 and 8, 2012, CDC hosted a consultation to consider the recommendations of the workgroups. This document summarizes the workgroup recommendations proposed at the consultation.

This branch implements scientifically rigorous HIV research studies and surveillance systems that meet critical local, state, and national HIV prevention needs for characterizing persons who are at risk for HIV infection or who have recently acquired HIV or have HIV-related illnesses.
