The 2028-2034 EU budget for a stronger Europe ++++

https://commission.europa.eu/strategy-and-policy/eu-budget/long-term-eu-budget/eu-budget-2028-2034_en In July 2025, the European Commission presented its proposal for the EU Multiannual Financial Framework (MFF) 2028–2034, setting out a budget of nearly €2 trillion to guide the Union’s spending priorities over the next seven years. The MFF defines how much the EU invests in key areas, including health, and therefore will play a decisive role in determining whether Europe’s long-term funding reflects the needs of the 30 million people living with a rare disease. At the centre of the proposal is the new European Competitiveness Fund (ECF) – a flagship instrument bringing together health, biotechnology, agriculture and the bioeconomy under a single framework to advance Europe’s innovation and resilience. Its design will decide whether the EU’s competitiveness ambitions translate into lasting investment in health, research and innovation that benefits all citizens. Over the summer, EURORDIS–Rare Diseases Europe welcomed this ambition but raised concerns that the proposal falls short of the vision and scale needed to ensure that no one is left behind. As negotiations move to the Council of the EU and the European Parliament, we take a look at the improvements to the EU budget that we wish to see, as the coming months will be crucial in shaping whether it fully delivers for the rare disease community. https://commission.europa.eu/publications/european-competitiveness-fund_en EURORDIS responds to European Commission’s proposed 2028-34 budget July 2025 https://www.eurordis.org/eurordis-responds-to-eu-commissions-proposed-2028-34-budget/ EURORDIS Feedback to the European Commission on the Multiannual Financial Framework (2028-34) and EU Funding for Competitiveness November 2025 https://www.eurordis.org/publications/feedback-european-commission-mff-competitiveness/
