Focus on Fibroids: What Do Women Need for Better Care?
September 22, 2020 at 4:00 PM ET
The Society for Women’s Health Research (SWHR) will host a virtual panel discussion to raise awareness about research gaps and unmet needs related to diagnosis, treatment, and access to care for uterine fibroids.

Uterine fibroids are a significant public health issue affecting about 26 million American women, with Black women at increased risk for the disease compared to white women. Fibroids are benign tumors that grow in and around the uterus and can cause symptoms such as heavy menstrual bleeding and pelvic pressure or pain.

Panelists will share their expert insights on how to improve the health of women with fibroids by driving innovation in research, policymaking, and education around this often overlooked, underfunded, and stigmatized disease. This panel is part of the work of SWHR’s Endometriosis and Fibroids Network, which seeks to engage and educate patients, clinicians, and health care decision-makers about the burden of these diseases, which significantly impact the lives of the women.
