| Maria was diagnosed with MonoMAC syndrome (a GATA2 deficiency) at the National Institutes of Health Clinical Center and participated in an NCI clinical trial involving chemotherapy and bone marrow transplant. The treatment prevented her from getting leukemia, a cancer for which people with MonoMAC syndrome individuals are predisposed. |
