Dear Colleagues:
NIDCR requests your input on six proposed concepts (research initiatives) presented at the September 2020 National Advisory Dental and Craniofacial Research Council meeting. The six initiatives are listed below, and detailed descriptions of their goals and objectives can be found on the NIDCR Requests Input on September 2020 Proposed Research Initiatives webpage.
To provide input and read the full initiative description, please visit our website.
Initiatives:
  • COVID-19 Research
  • NIDCR Administrative Supplements to Support Short Term Dentist-Scientist Research Training
  • NIDCR Dual Degree Dentist Scientist Predoctoral to Postdoctoral Transition Award
  • Research Enhancement Program (REAP) for Health Professional Schools and Graduate Schools (R15 Clinical Trial Not Allowed)
  • Targeting Upstream Determinants of Health
  • Understanding Oral Human Papillomavirus (HPV) Infection, Acquisition, and Persistence In People Living with HIV
The Concept Clearance Process
NIDCR supports research in significant as well as understudied areas of science, identifying broad research topic areas or themes that are developed into concepts. These concepts represent the early planning stages of research initiatives. These proposed research initiatives communicate future research goals to NIH, the Department of Health and Human Services, Congress, and the public.
NIDCR invites input about a concept’s merit, from research and clinical practice communities, industry, interested organizations, and the public at large.
Please note that initiatives are not a complete picture of the Institute’s planned research portfolio for the year indicated, nor do they signal that themes highlighted the previous year have been abandoned. Proposed FY 2021 initiatives will be integrated into this larger landscape as they are considered for funding opportunity announcements.
Please submit comments no later than October 22, 2020.

Thank you,
D. Jonathan Horsford, Ph.D.
Acting Deputy Director
National Institute of Dental and CraniofacialResearch
