COVID-19 cases near 1000000
Confirmed coronavirus cases across the world are approaching one million mark. Since emerging in China's Wuhan in December, COVID-19 has infected more than 950,000 people -- including at least 500,000 in Europe -- and claimed more than 48,000 lives, according to John Hopkins tracker. Spain said on Thursday it had suffered a record 950 deaths in 24 hours, bringing the total number of fatalities to 10,003. In India, Prime Minister Narendra Modi held a video conference with chief ministers of various states and said in the next few weeks testing, tracing, isolation and quarantine should remain the focus areas. The number of active cases increased to 1,965, including 50 deaths and 151 who have recovered. Meanwhile, authorities used drones to sanitise parts of Nizamuddin, which has emerged as the hotspot for coronavirus outbreak in the national capital.
