Today, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention released the latest national data on reported cases of chlamydia, gonorrhea and syphilis in its annual STD Surveillance Report. The report finds that STDs continue to threaten the health and well-being of millions of Americans.
- Chlamydia: 1,422,976 cases reported in 2012; cases stable overall compared to 2011 (increase of 0.7 percent).
- Gonorrhea: 334,826 cases reported in 2012; an increase of 4.1 percent from 2011.
- Syphilis (Primary & Secondary): 15,667 cases reported in 2012; an increase of 11.1 percent from 2011. The rate increase was solely among men, particularly gay and bisexual men.
