Health Tip: When Work Heats Up
Wear loose-fitted clothing to help stay cool
Monday, July 1, 2013
The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention suggests how to stay cool on the job:
- Wear clothing made of breathable, natural fibers such as cotton. Make sure clothes are light in color and loose-fitting.
- Do your heaviest work during the coolest part of the day.
- When heat and humidity are high, take more frequent breaks. Drink water and rest in the shade when you can.
- Drink about one cup of water every 20 minutes and don't allow yourself to become thirsty. Stay away from sugary, caffeinated and alcoholic beverages.
- Understand that protective gear may increase your risk of heat problems.
