Message from Linda McGoldrick, interim CEO, IDF

During this year's second quarter diabetes and NCDs were propelled into the spotlight at the World Health Assembly and in the UN High Level Panel Report on the post-2015 development agenda.

IDF leadership was present at the 66th World Health Assembly in Geneva during May. Margaret Chan, WHO Director General, again underlined diabetes and NCDs as a major threat to future development in her opening speech. Read more

Are you taking a step for diabetes?

IDF estimates that one person every 20 seconds loses a limb to The World Diabetes Day 2013 campaign marks the fifth and final year of the IDF’s campaign on Diabetes education and prevention. The 2013 campaign encourages everyone to Take a Step for Diabetes, through symbolic donations of steps accrued through various activities. Read more.
 

NCD action: from political to practical

On May 27, governments at the 66th World Health Assembly (WHA) unanimously adopted an omnibus resolution on NCDs. This resolution fulfils commitments made in the 2011 UN Political Declaration on the Prevention and Control of NCDs, and signals consensus on NCD action, accountability and coordination. Tracking global action on diabetes progress

The first-ever Global Diabetes Scorecard to measure government commitments on diabetes was recently unveiled by IDF. Despite the historic commitments made at the United Nations Summit on Non-communicable Diseases (NCDs) in 2011, countries are still lacking the means to hold governments accountable for their pledges. Quick diagnosis saves lives

IDF’s Life for a Child Programme (LFAC) has developed a poster campaign to alert health professionals to the signs and symptoms of diabetes in order to make a swift diagnosis and provide appropriate treatment to save lives - championing the vision that no child should die of diabetes. IDF will attend the 73rd Scientific Sessions of the American Diabetes Association (ADA) which will take place from 21-25 June 2013, in Chicago, (IL) USA. Come and visit us at booth 1981-1985 (Association Village) in the exhibition hall of the McCormick Place Convention Centre (West Building).
