Spreading Success: Encouraging Best Practices In Infection Prevention

EVENT DETAILS:
WEDNESDAY, OCTOBER 19, 2011, 8 A.M.-10:30 A.M.
NEWSEUM, KNIGHT CONFERENCE CENTER, 7TH FLOOR
Although healthcare-associated infections are among the top ten causes of death in the United States, the good news is that the CDC has recently reported significant declines, particularly in one of deadliest healthcare infections, central line-associated bloodstream infections.
Timed to occur during the 25th anniversary of International Infection Prevention Week (IIPW), this policy summit will explore the impact of healthcare reform efforts in boosting patient safety and quality improvement and the unique role of the patient safety professionals known as infection preventionists and their role in implementing programs to reduce or eliminate preventable healthcare-associated infections. With uneven progress in the adoption of best practices throughout the country, can public attention, innovative tracking and monitoring programs, and financial incentives, such as value-based purchasing, fuel continued improvement in combating these kinds of deadly infections?
