The National Youth Physical Activity and Nutrition Study (NYPANS) was conducted in 2010 with three main purposes:

1. To provide nationally representative data on behaviors and behavioral determinants related to nutrition and physical activity among high school students
2. To provide data to help improve the clarity and strengthen the validity of questions on the Youth Risk Behavior Survey (YRBS) ► CDC - YRBSS - Youth Risk Behavior Surveillance System - Adolescent and School Health: "- Enviado mediante la barra Google"
3. To understand the associations among behaviors and behavioral determinants related to physical activity and nutrition and their association with body mass index


The study included three measures:

1. A paper-and-pencil questionnaire Adobe PDF file [pdf 170K ► http://www.cdc.gov/healthyYouth/yrbs/pdf/nypans/2010nypans_questionnaire.pdf] administered to a nationally representative sample of students attending public and private schools in grades 9–12
2. Standardized protocol to measure height and weight in students completing the questionnaire
3. Telephone interviews to measure 24-hour dietary recalls among a subsample of students


Data & Documentation

The Data User’s Manual Adobe PDF file [pdf 3.25MB, 180 pages ► http://www.cdc.gov/healthyyouth/yrbs/pdf/nypans/nypans_data_users_manual.pdf] includes a sample description, procedures for editing the data, descriptions of how the variables were calculated, analysis software technical notes, and four codebooks: one for the survey and height/weight measurements, and three for the 24-hour dietary recall interview data files. Each data file is available in SAS, SPSS, and Access.
