What is CARASIL?

What is CARASIL? CARASIL, or cerebral autosomal-recessive arteriopathy with subcortical infarcts and leukoencephalopathy is a rare genetic disorder following the autosomal recessive inheritance pattern. Maeda et al. in Japan were the first to describe CARASIL in 1976. CARASIL directly affects the cerebral small blood vessels and is caused by mutations in the HTRA1 gene. https://www.news-medical.net/health/What-is-CARASIL.aspx
