Infection Control Guidance for Healthcare Professionals about Coronavirus (COVID-19) | CDC

World Patient Safety Day, September 17, 2020

CDC is observing World Patient Safety Day on September 17, 2020 and supports the global campaign to emphasize the importance of health worker safety as a priority for patient safety. Patient safety is at the heart of CDC’s work to prevent, detect and respond to infections in healthcare.

The COVID-19 pandemic has shown the critical importance of a safe healthcare workforce, who are on the frontlines every day working to stop infections and protect patients. Protecting healthcare workers is a CDC priority and continues to be an urgent focus of the nation’s public health response to COVID-19. CDC is developing infection control tools and guidelines, providing training and education materials for healthcare workers, and ensuring healthcare facilities are prepared to provide safe care for every patient at every encounter. CDC is using data to help healthcare facilities implement infection control practices that prevent infections and protect patients, visitors, and healthcare workers.

CDC also offers information for patients on how to protect themselves and their loved ones from healthcare-associated infections, including how to speak up for safe care and understand the need for infection prevention and control practices.

We all have a role to play – how can you enhance the safety of healthcare workers and patients? CDC remains committed to protecting patients and healthcare workers, and making healthcare safer for everyone. Learn more about CDC work to advance patient safety: https://www.cdc.gov/patientsafety/
