Study reports increased risk of death in children with inflammatory bowel disease

Children who develop inflammatory bowel disease (ulcerative colitis or Crohn's disease) have an increased risk of death, both in childhood and later in life, a study from Karolinska Institutet in Sweden published in the journal Gastroenterology reports.

			What are Eosinophilic Gastrointestinal Disorders? Eosinophils are an essential part of the immune system. Called effector cells, they are a type of white blood cell that is activated during allergies, infections, or cancer. When activated, they increase in number and aid the body in fighting infection and disease.
